Opinions for stocks held in the Growth Portfolio

CSL Ltd (CSL) $293.90

The ASX Healthcare Sector has been looking increasingly strong over recent weeks, with many diverse members such as CSL Ltd (CSL), Cochlear (COH), Sigma Healthcare (SIG), Ansell (ANN), Fisher & Paykel (FPH), Pro Medicus (PME), and even Ramsay Healthcare (RHC) feeling more bullish into the back end of 2024. With investors struggling to find value, with the “Big Four Banks” nudging all-time/multi-year highs, and the Tech Sector already up over +20% year to date, it's not surprising they’ve turned their attention to this old bastion of performance, which is up less than 5% so far this year. Until the Resources Sector latches onto some positive news from China, it is where MM sees some of the best risk/reward opportunities.

BHP Group Ltd (BHP) $42.54

We have discussed the largest listed stock a number of times through 2024, but the story towards BHP remains largely the same, bar the excitement around Anglo American (AAL LN).

Mineral Resources Ltd (MIN) $61.01

MIN has tumbled over the last five weeks as it endured both iron ore and ESG selling. We are glad we cut our correlated Pilbara (PLS) position after it made fresh 52-week lows on Monday.

ANZ Group (ANZ) $28.77

ANZ has been lagging behind NAB lately, although year-to-date, it's up +11% compared to NAB’s +13%, i.e., some very real market outperformance from both banks when we include May's dividends. We continue to target the $30 for ANZ, which is now only 5% away; similar to NAB, we will consider taking part in profit if the area is achieved in the coming weeks – ideally post June 30.

National Australia Bank (NAB) $35.01

NAB traded at multi-year highs on Thursday, yet analysts remain bearish about the bank and sector: Of the 15 recognised analysts who cover NAB, only 2 are calling it a “Buy”, with the highest price target of $35.69 less than 2% away. Our “best guess” where NAB will start to get tired is somewhere in the $37 region, but for now, we see no reason to follow the crowd and abandon the banks, although we will consider taking a little profit 5-10% higher.

Goodman Group (GMG) $35.53

GMG is a stock we’ve talked about almost too often this year, but it has been our domestic proxy on the Data centre/AI revolution, which has travelled in the shadow of Nvidia (NVDA US) over recent times, albeit without the same fanfare and explosive results. We continue to like the stock, but we may trim our position if it's pushed up towards $40.

National Storage REIT (NSR) $2.30

NSR +3.14%: the self-storage manager announced a JV with Singapore Sovereign Wealth fund GIC to develop an initial portfolio of 10 assets, with the partnership planning to deploy $270m within the next 18 months. NSR will own 25% of the venture but will act as the manager for the initial 5-year term. NSR will reap $120m from asset sales into the fund, helping to reduce debt. The deal shows plenty of interest in Australian storage assets and the announcement leaves the door ajar for a far bigger investment from the fund which controls ~$US750b.

JB Hi-Fi Ltd (JBH) $60.85

JBH advanced +1.9% on Wednesday, a solid performance on a soggy day for equities. Over the last 4-5 weeks, this leading retailer has rallied ~10% in an almost stealth manner. If we are correct, JBH should continue this advance up towards $70, which suggests either retail spending returns with some gusto or, more likely, investors become increasingly confident that central banks will start cutting interest rates, i.e. last night's CPI should help with Consumer Discretionary stocks up +0.8% in the US overnight.
