Evolution Mining Ltd (EVN) $3.75

EVN rallied +1.9%, following precious metals higher, their performance this year has been solid, tracking the gold price higher, i.e. EVN is ~6% below Mays high whereas the gold price, in $US, is 2.5% below its May high. However, considering how close gold is to its 2020 all-time high, it would disappoint long-term investors that EVN has fallen more than 40% over the last 3 years.

Evolution Mining Ltd (EVN) $3.69

EVN closed up +5.1% on Monday, enjoying the wave of buying which washed through the Gold Sector, e.g. Bellevue Gold (BGL) +4.8% and Regis Resources (RRL) +3.4%. Gold pulled back in Asia yesterday after rallying on Friday night, but buying felt offshore in nature as buyers repeatedly took out the offers,  we may have a central bank that’s considering hiking this afternoon.

Evolution Mining (EVN) $3.59

EVN advanced +3.8% on Wednesday as gold edged back above $US1950. Investors who look at charts on a surface level will wonder why EVN is trading  ~$1 below where it was the last time Gold traded at these levels, but bond yields are the difference between then and now, e.g. the Australian government has just sold $8bn worth of 31-year Australian Bonds with a 4.93% yield, the offering was 3.5x oversubscribed.

Having EVN on this list illustrates that we’re happy to increase positions irrespective of whether they are above or below our initial entry point, which goes against many investors' natural instinct i.e. only averaging positions that are down, but thats often the wrong philosophy when trying to add portfolio alpha/value.

Evolution Mining Ltd (EVN) $3.67

Evolution Mining (EVN) is known as a gold stock although ~25% of its revenue now comes from copper, not a perfect switch but an option. Monday saw EVN gain +2.2%, outperforming SFR’s +1.7% gain as we saw a move towards Chinese facing stocks and away from the $US which created an additional tailwind for gold names.

EVN rallied +3.2% on Monday as its starts to recover a decent portion of the dip post its FY report where EBITDA of $844.5mn came in ~5% below expectations – another example of an ASX miner whose struggled with costs of late. However we continue to like EVN supported by our medium-term bullish view on both gold & copper.

EVN fell -4.8% yesterday following a lukewarm reception to its FY report which saw revenue of $2.23bn up 8% on the year but EBITDA of $844.5mn down 6% and importantly ~5% below expectations with costs and lower copper credits the issue – costs again!

EVN -4.82%: FY23 report out for the gold miner today, its shares underperformed peers which were also weaker as gold traded below $US1,900/oz for the first time since March. EBITDA of $844m was ~5% below expectations with costs and lower copper credits biting.

Evolution Mining (EVN) $3.72

EVN -0.53%: the gold miner was out with their 4th quarter production numbers today, bringing a tough year to an end. Their key asset, Ernst Henry, saw production dip as a result of poor weather which weighed on the last quarter of the year, though this has been well understood by the market.
