Thermal Coal, as opposed to Met. coal is a large proportion of NHC’s earnings, hence their comparatively small gain on Monday, although +4.5% wasn’t too bad! Last month, the company announced a better-than-expected 3rd quarter sales update with strong production growth heading into the end of the year, costs tracking lower, and $380m in cash. We continue to like NHC as a medium-term “yield play” that aligns with MM’s outlook for increasing energy and coal demand in the years ahead.
- We like NHC as a dividend play with the stock estimated to yield 6.5% in 2025 – MM is long NHC in our Active Income Portfolio.
