Question asked

Stop Loss Orders

Hi James and Team I have been with MM since February and I'm still kind of feeling my way in the SMSF arena. Unfortunately my trading platform (eSuperfund) doesn't allow me to make use of your Market Matters Invest service so I have to align myself manually to your portfolio weightings. My question is related to Stop Loss Orders. I wondered whether you employ these when you invest in the shares within your portfolios and if so how you determine what the stop loss trigger price will be for each investment. Also, if you do use them, would those triggers be available to your members? Cheers Mark

Answer

Hi Mark,

We don’t use stop orders although if we did they would 100% be made aware to our subscribers. We described this very topic in Thursdays webinar, the key points were as below:

  • Stop losses work when positions are entered for system-based reasons hence an exit strategy can be implemented accordingly. i.e. a fully systematic strategy.
  • We buy stocks using a combination of fundamental, macro and quantitative reasoning, and sell using the same factors.
