After a trading halt on 17 April, PEN is trading again after announcing an equity raise @30c on 22 Aug. The institutional offer is now complete and the retail offer at 1:1 closes on Tuesday 29 Sept. I note from your comments in Q&A last week that MM has no interest in PEN, however, if you held the stock, would you consider participating. It has been trading 10 to 20% above the offer price early in the week. My concern is the discount to the last traded price before the holt is >50%.

If the US$ heads lower, investors will look to other markets for returns. The price of emerging markets ETFs have increased recently. What is your view of these ETFs, eg EMKT? I note your core portfolio does not have any.

Hello again Gents,
I do love these Q&As – always very informative.
So, let’s assume that a US recession is inevitable and let’s assume that you’re too old and tired to sit it out and wait for the recovery.
What sectors do you exit from and what, if any, are worth holding?
Let’s also assume that you’re heavily invested in commodities like gold, silver, platinum and uranium and you’re staring down the barrel of the recession, but also a failing $US – a contra-indication?
Please hypotheticalise (my new word) away.
Thanks as always.

With developments in recent months in RARE EARTHS with US Govt taking an equity stake in MP Materials and also underwriting the produced NdPR price (and also the Aus Govt taking a stake in LTR), do you think Lynas Rare Earths (LYC) is going to be setup for continued share price strength, or is the market going to lose interest now that they have doubled in 3 months and also done a capital raising at a new all-time high? Your outlook for the LYC opportunity please. Done and dusted, or just getting going? – Paul.

Do the figures you quote for average loss and percentage of times the ASX or other indices fall in September take account of the significant dividends that are paid out during the month?

Hello James and Team,
I own gold stocks physical, Etf and also mines and therefore paying attention to the outlook on US$.
I heard an interview on CNBC in which David Malpass former Head of World Bank and worked in Trump 1 Admin. He said that Fed models are outdated; yield curve needs to be lower because the economy is strong and growing,; growth does not cause inflation.
Importantly, he said that the US dollar is ‘worth defending’. Most economists see the US$ declining and I think I heard Trump saying that he would like a lower US$.
What is your view on the US$?
Kind regards, Bob
