Question asked

Newmont Corp. shares as the dual list

Hello MM, For those of us who did not sell our Newcrest shares, how do we determine the cost price of NEM shares please? Cheers, Mick.

Answer

Hi Mick,

While we don’t think this has been confirmed (could be wrong), it’s our understanding that rollover relief applies for this, so the cost base stays the same, adjusted for the ratio of 0.4 NEM shares per 1 NCM share held. Using the example of 1000 NCM shares held from a cost base of $20, the holder would now own 400 NEM CDIs with a cost base of $50, with the date of original purchase of NCM shares used for tax purposes. As with anything related, we recommend seeking advice from a qualified accountant on this.
