Thoughts on Chalice Mining (CHN)

Firstly to all the team at MM thank you for your most insightful reports Much appreciated I have a load of CHN from the heady days of $6.50 and watched them slide to the current price of $1.22 I still like the story but difficult to now get excited. Do you suggest a top-up to average down or put in the back draw and open up a nice bottle of red! Cheers Mark

Answer

Hi Mark,

For subscribers not familiar with CHN its a $470mn WA based minerals explorer whose main discovery is the Gonneville Project in Western Australia, which holds a rare mix of critical green metals required for decarbonisation and urbanisation including nickel, copper, cobalt, palladium and platinum. Firstly, at MM we only provide General Advice hence we can only look at CHN through our investment lens.

Unfortunately, having witnessed CHN fall over 85% from its 2023, along with a number of other speculative ESG names, we see no reason to venture into the stock. We continue to prefer the bigger end of town at this stage of the cycle:

  • We like Pilbara (PLS) for lithium exposure, Sandfire (SFR) for copper and IGO (IGO) for nickel & cobalt – we own the first two across our portfolios. That Red is looking good!
