Mineral Resources Ltd (MIN) $54.31

MIN follows the iron ore and lithium price closely and at this stage of the cycle we can see the likes of fellow lithium names PLS Group (PLS) falling ~10% hence we are in no hurry to buy back into MIN. The stock rallied close to five fold over the last twelve months and the current pullback, at this stage, is nothing more sinister than consolidation following the stellar advance. A “washout” style move, sub $50, would provide some excellent risk/reward in our opinion.

Mineral Resources Ltd (MIN) $53.80

Iron ore/lithium miner MIN also reported solid numbers last week – covered Here. We exited MIN in January above $60 and aren’t planning to re-enter at this stage, but the risk/reward is certainly more appealing after its well over 20% pullback. The stock is likely to follow the lithium price over the coming months, but we have turned more cautious here given the potential for mine restarts.

We’ve gone off-piste for our last stock, though we’re using it to highlight an important theme. Yesterday, we saw South Korean POSCO pay Mineral Resources $1.2bn for 30% of its operational lithium business. Importantly, this values MIN’s existing 50% interest in Wodinga and Mt Marion Lithium mines at $3.9bn – well north of what many in the market had their value pegged at (MM included).

Monday was case of two out of three’s not bad for MIN with its lithium and mining services divisions delivering strong tailwinds while iron ore has weighed slightly over the last week. However, the stock still advanced over +4% on Monday with fresh 2025 highs looking likely if our bullish outlook for Li proves on point - MIN still has an almost 7% short position, but notably it's more than halved since June.

We’ve included MIN this morning as we hold the miner in our Active Growth Portfolio, but it only generated ~13% of its revenue from Li in FY25. MIN has placed its Bald Hill lithium mine in Western Australia under care and maintenance, but like a number in space, it can ramp up production if prices justify, with substantial lithium production capacity from ongoing expansions at Wodgina and Mt Marion.
