Alphabet Inc, or Google as its more often referred to, has been an excellent performer in 2023 helped by last month’s better-than-expected quarterly results which showed revenue up 7% from the year-earlier buoyed by Cloud surging +28%. The stock popped to a new 15-month high at the end of last month following the strong result.

Global Markets

Alphabet or Google as its still often referred to has failed to keep pace with Apple and Microsoft but it has still bounced 50% from its late 2022 low and we wouldn’t be fading the upside momentum i.e. in a similar fashion to its larger peers we can see higher prices in H2.

Alphabet Inc (GOOGL US) $US103.37

Google as most people still call it has tumbled -45% from its 2021 high, not as bad as some tech stocks but still more than most people expected back in late 2021, including ourselves. We believe that this revaluation of Alphabet is complete and the stock is starting to recover some of the painful losses endured as rates soared higher over the last year which caused most growth names to be dramatically re-priced.

International Equities Portfolio

The MM International Equities Portfolio enjoyed a strong week even with the aggressive sell-off overnight, the portfolio was up 3.01% outpacing the S&P 500 which added +0.65%. Copper miner Freeport McMorRan (FCX US) +11.72% led the line supported by an 11.68% rally from Snowflake (SNOW US). Only two positions fell with Tesco (TSCO LN) down 3.58% the weakest of them while Alphabet (GOOG US) lost -0.87%.
