What to Buy/Accumulate

Dear MM Team, Following the recent correction & turbulence, which of the following diverse list companies would you see the best opportunity (or ranking) to either initiate a position or continue to accumulate for the longer term . . .

  • APA, BHP, NRW, RMD, WDS, MQG, WOW, TTD, and ASML.
I understand this is not financial advice. With thanks as ever, Bernie

Answer

Hi Bernie,

A big question after a long and volatile week, please excuse the succinct answer but it has been well thought out with most emphasis on the here and now following recent moves.  The core view we have as the market struggles below 7800 is buy the quality stocks that are retreating with the market, not the problem children:

  • APA group (APA): One of our favourite yield plays, which we regard as great value ~$7.60 – we hold APA in our Income and Growth Portfolios.
  • BHP Group (BHP): A great diversified miner but we are not considering averaging ~$38.50 – we hold BHP in our Income and Growth Portfolios.
  • NRW Holdings (NWH): Endured a 7-day suspension, posting a mixed half-yearly result while also announcing they are owed ~$113m by OneSteel. We like the stock into weakness and have considered it as an alternative to SRG Global (SRG) which we own.
  • RMD: We like this sleep disorder business in the $34.50-$35 region which is approaching rapidly.
  • WDS:  Its fallen a long way but too many fundamental and geopolitical forces are weighing on WDS – its still too hard for us.
  • MQG: We like MQG under $200 and increased our position on  Wednesday.
  • WOW: We like the risk/reward below $28 but this supermarket continues to struggle.
  • Trade Desk Inc (TTD US): This advertising technology company has struggled since its recent disappointing, but not awful result, we like it around $US60 and would be buyers if we did not already own.
  • ASML Holdings (ASML US): We are neutral towards this semiconductor business.
