MM Portfolios

Hi MM Team, I've been a subscriber for a a few years now and am slowly building my portfolios to match the MM portfolios, so just wanted to say thank-you for all the market guidance you provide. With regards to the portfolios on the MM website, I know when a stock has 'active' next to it that it is still the equivalent of a 'buy' recommendation in MM's view but I am just wondering how often they are updated and if it needs to be cross-checked with the company profile page on the MM website? I am unsure which is the most up to date in terms of if MM still feels a stock is a buy? There are a few stocks across the MM portfolios which have Active next to them, but if you go to the actual company/listing page there seems to be a conflict. For example, NABPF has Active next to it, but if I click to the company page it has 'MM are neutral hybrids, seeing no clear compelling value at current levels'. Also, specifically looking at GOLD US in the International Portfolio and GOLD ASX in the Core ETF Portfolio, these both show as Active but I am wondering with the recent strength in gold, how much further upside MM predicts there might be? Thanks! SB

Answer

Hi Sonja,

Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. A good question with the “Active” tab often confusing subscribers.

  • When we have “Active” next to a stock in our portfolios it means we are still buyers at current levels, e.g. ANZ Group (ANZ) in our Active Growth Portfolio.
  • You are right, in terms of the Action on a particular stock not being automatically linked to the portfolio’s ‘active’ tab, and there at times can be an implied conflict due to timing. If there is, we would suggest deferring to the portfolio active tab for ultimate guidance as these are reviewed daily.

In terms of the two specifics you mentioned:

  • GOLD – we remain bullish through 2024/5 expecting falling interest rates to send precious metals and related stocks higher, we’ve discussed this a few times through the week. Just for clarity, GOLD US is the ticker for the company Barrick Gold while the GOLD ETF houses a bunch of gold stocks.
  • With regard to the NABPF hybrid, this is a good example. The comment ‘MM are neutral hybrids, seeing no clear compelling value at current levels’ was time stamped a comment on hybrids in general doesn’t apply to all, in very similar fashion to stocks.
