Any ideas why YAL dropped so hard after announcing a 70c dividend?

YAL reportrd 70 cent fully franked div today yet dropped 5% on heavy turnover. I heard maybe their chinese owners might be going to take them over at a lower price.. Sounds unlikely but strange they should drop with such a big dividend. While you are at it surely AIS oversold - or maybe the report not as good as i thought.

Answer

Hi Brian,

YAL dropped after they announced a 70c fully franked dividend on the 27th but all losses were erased just 3 days later, in our opinion it was simply a knee jerk reaction to its report plus over the same 48-hour period other stocks in the sector such as Whitehaven (WHC) and New Hope (NHC) suffered sharp sell-offs as the underlying commodity fell i.e. in our opinion there’s nothing more sinister in the result and we remain bullish on the coal stocks.
