Question asked

Unexpected movement of shares from ASX to Canada.

Firstly, thank you for your service. Just a couple of days ago my shares in A1G (African Gold on ASX), have been moved to Canada after the takeover by Montage Gold (MAU:CA)). I do not have any broker/account in Canada. It looks that I lost access to them. What should I do to access the shares again? I would like to sell them now, but I have no idea how to do it :-( Can you give me some hints?

Answer

Hi Robert,

Two ways:

Go to the share registry for Montage Gold – this is Endeavour Trust Corporation (we think), and search your holding. Some share registries allow selling through them, which would be the cleanest/simplest approach. In any case, you’ll need to get your Certificate or DRS statement.

Alternatively, you’d need to open an international trading account with a broker, then move the shares to that broker, supplying your Certificate or DRS statement. Interactive brokers is one, Commsec / CMC also do this. This is a bit of a process unfortunately.
