Starpharma Holdings Ltd (SPL)

Thanks for the opportunity to get specific stock insights. I am looking at Starpharma which I have patiently held for a while and there was a change in direction in Sept that seems be consolidating more definitively today except on low volumes. It may be a very delayed response? to the most recent quarterly report which did have an optimistic tone. Should one (not specific) be more wary when the sudden increase in price is not accompanied by higher volumes? I guess this is even a question that could apply to any similar moves in share prices. NOTE I am not a chartist :)

Hi Peter,

In late 2025 Starpharma rallied after signing a major oncology licensing deal with Genentech (Roche) worth up to ~$US855 million in milestone and development payments. The agreement validated Starpharma’s DEP® drug delivery platform, brought in an upfront payment, and signalled big-pharma endorsement, materially lifting investor confidence and perceived long-term value.

Starpharma’s rally was also supported by renewed momentum in its oncology pipeline and upcoming clinical milestones. Management highlighted progress with its DEP® platform programs, reinforcing the shift toward higher-value cancer therapeutics and strengthening investor confidence in future partnership and development catalysts.

SPL is a stock with strong retail investor interest which amplifies moves in both directions. In this case, the positive news flow triggered momentum buying, which magnified the share price rally arguably beyond the fundamental catalyst alone hence the stock “taking a rest”.

With a market cap of around $200mn this deal is significant and the stock looks good while it holds above 40c – a technical comment at the end but we aren’t biopharma experts.

The ASX pulled back sharply today as AI-related margin fears continued to drive aggressive selling across software and high-multiple names. Despite the weak finish, the market still closed the week up ~2.4%, underpinned by a fantastic week from the banks on better-than-expected results.
