Questions submitted mid last week but not answered.

Happy Lunar New Year Team! Please advise: 1) where can one find the stocks that currently have SPP open? 2) Does Paypal offer a buy/sell in crypto? 3) Apart from the newly minted Crypto ETF, where can one buy crypto from a reputable organisation without creating own wallet? 4) If  Cameco is losing almost US$50/lb on its spot purchases, how would it impact the price of URNM which has a substantial holding in Cameco? Would it be better to invest in the likes of PDN, and BOE & avoid Urnm? Thanks & regards, Sidney

Answer

Hi Sidney,

It was answered and posted on the site here, however it looks to have missed the email – sorry about that.  Here is what we said….

Happy Year of the Dragon!

  • We don’t know any location to find all of the shares that currently have an SPP open, we know them on a case-by-case basis. An investor can only participate in an SPP if they own the stock prior to the announcement of the offer.  Metcash for instance, is live with an SPP.
  • None of the MM team have used the facility but we understand the cryptocurrency service is currently available to PayPal Personal account holders only.
  • We’re really not in the business of crypto, and as we often say to subscribers / investors / clients, we like to stay in our lane, which is generally equities. That said, Coinbase seems solid / have heard decent things as does eToro but we don’t have any real insight here.
  • Cameco’s contract pricing was a known issue to MM, this was not a surprise when they reported results. In actual fact, not downgrading FY24 production was the surprise to us which took some pressure off the market that was positioned for it.  In any case, we sold Cameco (CCJ) in the International Equities Portfolio just above $US50 and we’re happy to be on the sidelines for now. We think the trade became too crowded in the short term.
  • We do like the medium term thematic, with Paladin (PDN) and Boss (BOE) our favored targets i.e. they have a near term production profile that would be attractive for a larger player who was short pounds!
