Archives: Questions And Answers

James, You covered the negative sentiment regarding China Tech stocks today quickly but as the International portfolio holds a number of these including recent purchase of JD. Do you intend to cut and run or hold and why? Best, Mark K.

Hi James, I am finding your newsletter very helpful thank you. Lots of questions below that I hope you can give me semi simple answers to in the coming weeks. I am interested in your view re inflation (transitory or not) and interest rates. Also wrt current stock valuations in the USA? You are talking about rotation into banks and commodities and I thought these were inflation stocks – is inflation not so transitory then? If you are positive inflation is there some big global Pharma that you like? Do you think the Aussie banks’ spread is opening up again (and the AUD has bottomed) so banks are on the rise? I thought they were narrowing so confused. Finally Quality Vs Value – where does Quality fit into your current rotation to Value? Cheers, Jill

Hi , EVN is doing a SPP at 3.85 ….the share price is around $4.20 do you think is good value ? and also as I already hold shares and have about 5 % exposure and also hold a small amount of NCM and NST …so I don’t want my exposure to be too high to gold ….would it make sense for me or others to sell some of our EVN and buy it back through the SPP ….knowing it is not personal advice ….but just does it make any sense to do that ? . Also at $6.00 is A2M a buy ? – Thanks Glenn.

Hi – Hybrids, specifically high quality/lower end of risk type such as I’d expect from major Banks….finding it hard to get educational articles on how to compare and select them. Any chance you might have anything or pointers on where to get help. I created an account with Bond Advisor but they seem to assume you know what you’re doing…Cheers Dave B.

Hi James, Thanks for the daily commentary. Is it time to take some profits on iron ore producers (BHP, RIO, FMG) or even reduce exposure to this sector or wait till after the upcoming dividend cycle? What is your view on Pharmaxis (PXS) and Poseidon (POS)? Thanks, Ram

Hi James and the MM team, Thanks for the daily broker updates / moves. However can I please ask that you put out a “translation” for some of the not so obvious or common terms. For example “underweight”. Does this mean that the investor should reduce/sell their holdings? Another is “underperform”. Does this mean the share price is below where it should be and therefore a buy? – Thanks, Jan

I am looking to buy ANZ or Medibank MPL or both as an alternative to holding surplus cash (assume I am currently holding 60% equities 40 % cash) over the next 6 months – question: do I continue to hold surplus cash, buy one of the above or both or buy something else? Regards, Michael S.

Wondering whether LYC is one of those stocks which you feel should be sold down (on a high at present) ..or continue to hold for potential further upside? Many thanks for your great work on the MM newsletters providing very useful insights! – Don H.

Maxitrans Industries (MXI) have announced a process whereby they will sell their Trailer Division and then make a Special Div later in the year, then move on to concentrate on their truck parts business. Understanding you can’t give personal advice, do you have any view on whether to sell MXI shares now (they have reflected the upcoming sale and special div) and re-deploy capital, or wait for the div, or even stay invested with MXI in their new format? Keep up the good work guys – read your newsletters avidly and especially enjoy your macro insights and commentary on the mining/materials sector.
