Thoughts on IGL Share Purchase Plan & the new norm for markets

Hi You've frequently made comments along the line of this from Mondays report "a move of magnitude, macro perception and sentiment that would usually have taken say 6 months to unfold is now often complete in just a matter of weeks". Clearly the market is responding to news much more quickly than it used to. My question is do you think this will be the "new normal" and is it just happening because of the current state of the market or do you think the market will settle back into a more long-term pattern of behaviour. Or is it simply impossible to tell!! Also, at first glance the IGL share purchase plan announced today looks like good value. Any thoughts (I notice Shaw and Partners are underwriting the institutional offer)? I'm a very happy recent holder of IGL. Cheers Carl

Answer

Hi Carl,

In terms of market moves unfolding faster than over previous years being the new norm my answer I’m afraid is yes but only for now. Markets are cyclical in nature and today we’re seeing interest rates rally for the first time in many years which is causing elevated volatility, my best “guess” is that until this tightening cycle is in the rear-view mirror we should anticipate plenty of significant swings in market sentiment, both up and down.

IGL has announced the acquisition of OVT which we believe is an excellent deal:

  • IGL has flagged significant accretion through the deal which includes a whopping +27% to EBITDA on an annualised basis post-integration.

The stock was unchanged on Friday as carnage rained supreme, MM is a fan of IGL and this deal.
