Aristocrat (ALL) and Light & Wonder (LNW)

Hi James and Team It's Wed 28/5 - am trading. Light and Wonder this week so far has risen around 15.7% while Aristocrat has risen 2.5%. Could I have your view on ALL & LNW going forward. Can you see ALL making up this difference in price increases being in the same sector or has the increase in LNW been very stock specific news? regards Debbie

Hi Debbie,

The recent price differential is easy to comprehend:

Aristocrat (ALL): Disappointed investors with its 1H25 results earlier this month with a 9% miss at the earnings line. As we said at the time ALL has been a top performer over recent years and in line with the ” Certainty Trade” a very owned stock.
Light & Wonder (LNW): The market has warmed to LNW since its investor day on the 20^th May in New York, where some big numbers were put forward. However, with LNW trading significantly cheaper than ALL its not surprising that its outperformed its better known rival.

In terms of relative performance its largely down to where you draw the line but moving forward, after the recent moves around news flow, we see more upside in LNW.

Weekend Q&A: As we approach the EOFY, the ASX200 is flirting with its all-time high

The ASX 200 rallied on the final trading day of May, closing up +0.3% for the session, leaving the index just ~2% below its all-time high. Overall, an excellent performance by the Australian bourse, advancing +3.8% for the month, shrugging off the ongoing uncertainty around tariffs and rising long-dated bond yields. However, a more dovish than expected RBA, a strong banking sector, suspicions of overseas buying, and a market caught underweight stocks after their dramatic “V-shaped” recovery from Trump's “Liberation Day” was enough to drive the local market back towards the 8600 area. With pullbacks well supported in one of the most hated bullish advances that we can recall, it makes for a compelling argument that new highs are just around the corner.

The Match Out: Sell in May (& go away) not the go this year, ASX gains 3.8%!

The final trading day of the month carried the ASX to a 3.8% gain over the period and now within ~200pts of all-time highs with investors brushing off tariff risk and shifting focus back to fundamentals.
