Hi Sidney,
Getting a good reliable up to date coal price is easier said than done and something we get asked about on a regular basis. Without paying Bloomberg style prices the best place for a decent indication is probably:

As for why the coal prices are under pressure on Friday its simply down to said coal price which has endured a tough week and month as the futures contracts roll into February and March delivery dates. The coal market has been in backwardation, with forward prices lower than spot with demand lower than expected thanks to a mild European winter. However markets across gas and coal remain tight and we believe it won’t take much to reverse this trade.
At MM we are buyers into weakness but the likes of Whitehaven (WHC) and New Hope (NHC) are volatile beasts whose volatility should not be underestimated.
