Question asked

Can you recommend a listed LIC that specialises in small to medium cap companies?

Answer

Hi Colin,

We’d prefer not to invest in LIC’s given their prospesity to trade below NTA, however, a listed fund we like is:

  • Ophir High Conviction Fund (OPH)

If set on LICs, take a look at Spheria Emerging Companies (SEC) which has performed strongly delivering a 15.78% return. SEC is an ASX  LIC that invests in small‐ and micro‑cap companies in Australia & New Zealand.  In FY25, the LIC made a net profit after tax of $16.4m (up about $8.8m YoY), returned ~16.3% vs its Small Ordinaries benchmark of ~12.3%, and paid fully franked dividends of 14.1 cents/share (yield ~5.8%, or ~8.3% including franking).
