JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI)

Can I have your thoughts on JEPI as a stock for inclusion is an income focussed portfolio. Thanks

Answer

Hi Ian,

For subscribers not familiar with the JEPI ETF it’s an ASX-listed actively managed U.S. equity fund that aims to deliver high monthly income with lower volatility by combining large-cap stocks with a covered-call options strategy. It offers solid yield but sacrifices some upside in fast-rising markets due to selling call options.  A few points of note:

  • It’s not hedged but holds ~80% exposure in the US hence there is some FX risk.
  • It pays an unfranked dividend on a monthly basis while charging 0.40% per annum.

Over the past 3 years, JEPI’s total return (price + dividends) is about +31.0%, which corresponds to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of ~9.4% p.a.

We like this ETF but cannot help but mention our own MM Income Portfolio at this juncture which is up 11% pa over the same time period: it’s open for investment Here.
