Question asked

Investing in Asia

Dear James, Do you believe that now is a good time for MM to invest in asian shares ? If so, do you have a preference amongst ETFs IAA, ASIA or IEM ? many thanks John.

Answer

Hi John,

We continue to anticipate that Asian equities and in particular China will address their recent underperformance versus the US S&P500 however, in the very short term we feel the airs getting thin for equities and we might consolidate/pullback from here, we’d be more positive on this trade into weakness.

Our preference is China rather than broader Asia, with the iShares China Large-Cap ETF IZZ holding China’s largest companies, although the IAA would also do the job, just a bit more diversified. ASIA is technology focussed and IEM is broader emerging markets, so includes South America and the like.
