Question asked

Gold juniors miners

Hi Just wondering what your current pick of the smaller gold producers would be and if anything is looking under-valued just now? Or would you wait for dips? Can you suggest entry prices? Price-wise, SLR, who merged with RED5 and now has been renamed Vault (VAU) which we hold, appears to have under-performed recently. What's your opinion? And how do you view others such as DEG, RRL, RMS, WGX? Cheers, Nick

Answer

Hi Nick,

The gold sector has been bullish, fascinating and frustrating in 2024, if you had told me gold would have cracked $US2700 & $A4000 before the end of October I would have called the gold miners much higher, but at least they have surged well off their lows. If they cant make good money now it’s a worry.

We’ve gone out on a limb here for you and ranked the ones you’ve mentioned in order of preference but we do remain keen on Evolution (EVN) and Vault (VAU) which we hold in our Active Growth and Emerging Companies Portfolios respectively:

  • VAU,  RMS, WGX, RRL, and DEG.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see ongoing M&A activity in the space and the topic was much discussed at Augusts “Diggers & Dealers Conference”  with the mid-tier names you’ve mentioned ripe for consolidation, e.g. Gold Road Resources (GOR) and Regis (RRL) are often rumoured to be in talks, and the list goes on with GOR owning a 17.3% stake in DEG…a couple would arguably fit well into a portfolio.
