Question asked

CONDUCTIVITY of METALS

To what extent can ALUMINIUM be used as an alternative to COPPER in EVs and communications wiring etc. I believe that SILVER is an even better conductor than COPPER but its cost is prohibitive.

Answer

Hi John,

If only it is that simple with the abundance of aluminium but alas compared to metals like gold, silver, and copper, aluminium is a poor heat and electricity conductor. Aluminium has strong conductivity for electricity and heat because it has three electrons in the free state, but its conductivity is lower than copper since it is less dense.
