Question asked

Amplitude Energy Ltd (AEL)

Can I have your thoughts on AEL (Cooper Energy) please. It has done nothing for years but is now finally starting to rise. For years there was also talk of it being a takeover target but from what I can see no offer has ever been made. What are your thoughts on its prospects going forward? Thank you

Answer

Hi Ian,

For anyone not familiar, Amplitude Energy Ltd (AEL), formerly Cooper Energy, is an Australian mid-tier energy company valued around $690 million. They focus on exploring, developing, and producing natural gas and oil — basically, delivering reliable energy with a growing emphasis on sustainability and meeting local demand.

  • AEL reported a small profit of $8.5 million for the half-year ending December 2024 — up 57% compared to the previous year.

This was driven by higher production, rising gas prices, and better operational efficiency — all lining up nicely.

There’s certainly no confirmed takeover interest but given AEL’s strategic position in southeast Australia and its improving results, there’s some market speculation about potential bids from bigger players – but as you say, this has been the case for a while. Overall, things look okay for now.
