Question asked

Active tabs

Hi Team, Today you have initiated selling MQG and MFG. I noticed both stocks have active tabs which to my understanding you are saying it is still a buy. I would have thought these tabs should have been removed if you are contemplating selling. I could easily have bought on Friday only to see you selling on Monday. I am just trying to understand when or if we should take notice of these tabs. Regards, Ray

Answer

Hi Ray,

In an ideal world, a stock would move from active to not advice prior to being sold – a natural sequence. The MFG position should have been moved that way as we’d discussed it the prior weak covering a more neutral stance given it’s strong run and valuation.   Macquarie (MQG) was more call on the markets fragility at the time. The market was losing momentum and we sold MQG to increase cash and reduce portfolio beta – not as much a call on MQG individually, but a call on the market and the growth portfolios positioning / exposure to it.  Good feedback we’ll take on board.
