Ramelius Resources (RMS) $1.995

RMS closed up +4.2% on Wednesday, with the stock having recovered from the news in May that it had approached Westgold (WGX) for a $3bn gold merger. We believe the Gold Sector will see further consolidation over the coming year, similar to RED & SLR and heavyweights Newmont & Newcrest, but for now, all is quiet with RMS.

Ramelius Resources (RMS) $1.91

RMS tumbled -7.6% on Wednesday after news emerged they had approached Westgold (WGX) for a $3bn gold merger; WGX rallied over 6%. This consolidation/bid follows on the heels of Newmont's (NEM US) purchase of Newcrest (NCM), but by all accounts, WGX has rebuffed the approach, which included some scrip in the deal – based on yesterday's close; RMS is valued at around $2.2bn and WGX's $1.1bn.

We have liked RMS for more than a year, and it hasn’t disappointed us. On Thursday, it rallied over 7%, making it one of the best-performing gold stocks in a hot session for precious metals.  The $2bn South Australian gold producer has been gaining momentum through March since they released their 10-year plan for the Mt Magnet mine.

RMS rallied +10.5% yesterday making it the top performer within the ASX200 and if we are correct both RMS and the gold sector have further to rally, it may have already bounced ~60% but we feel at least the next 20% looks set to be on the upside. • We think RMS can now rally towards the $1.13 initial resistance following Jerome Powell’s dovish statement.

RMS was one of many gold stocks who bounced yesterday albeit from extremely deflated levels e.g. RMS is already down 20% in 2022 and 75% from its post COVID high, we know picking market bottoms is statistically fraught with danger but the Gold Sector is starting to look extremely attractive from a valuation perspective, we believe “it’s a case of when as opposed to if” it bounces +30%.

Yesterday morning we touched on our bullish view towards Regis Resources (RRL) and right on cue the gold sector enjoyed a strong day dominating the leader’s board e.g. RMS +5.1% and RRL +4.6%. We like this relatively small $988mn predominantly gold miner and explorer which was the market’s 3rd best performer yesterday, initially looking for 15-20% upside although more wouldn’t surprise.
