Question asked

Is the selling overdone

With NEC & GQG looking at the financials - are these stocks in the oversold territory. MM owns GQG and has sold NEC in Jan. Are you considering picking up NEC at the current level ? On a side note - what do you think about POW which is a new uranium player and recently IPO`ed ?

Answer

Hi Sri,

A mixed bag here but the underlying question of “is the selling overdone” is one we have discussed a fair bit in recent reports with the underlying tone being “not yet.” – Thursday mornings savage 150-point fall is testament to investors finding plenty of reasons not to buy the current weakness.

Nine Entertainment (NEC) – we sold NEC in January ~30% above current levels and although its breaking to new all-time lows we have no interest re-entering the stock seeing no easy growth levers now the sale of Domain is in the rearview mirror as it wrestles with old & new style businesses.

  • The NEC growth story hinges on Stan and QMS scaling fast enough to offset the structural decline in FTA television and print.

GQG Partners (GQG) – this fund manager is one weighing on MMs performance YTD despite its double-digit yield. We continue to believe GQG is offering compelling value but until we see an end to FUM withdrawals the stocks likely to struggle.

  • If we had no position GQG would be on our radar BUT we are not considering averaging.

Powerhaus Uranium Ltd (POW) – a $20mn micro-cap uranium stock with a daily turnover of around less than $50k per day making it impossible to invest in and very hard to comment on.

The company reported an operating loss of $1.82M for the year ending December 31, 2025, with a cash balance of only just $740K suggesting a tight liquidity position typical of early-stage explorers – sorry but all too hard for MM.
