Hi Steve,
Firstly, for subscribers not familiar with the company Metallium Ltd (MTM) is a ~$300mn industrial technology company focused on recovering gold and critical metals from waste streams using its patented Flash Joule Heating (FJH) technology, originally developed at Rice University. The process is designed to extract metals including rare earths, antimony, gallium and indium from e-waste and industrial scrap without conventional acids or tailings.
Formerly MTM Critical Metals, the company rebranded in 2025 as it pivoted from mineral exploration toward technology-led metals recycling and recovery. MTM is now developing commercial-scale capacity at its Texas Technology Campus, alongside a downstream processing partnership with Ucore Rare Metals.
The key consideration moving forward for MTM is commercial execution as it remains pre-revenue at meaningful scale, with the investment case dependent on successfully ramping its Texas facility through 2026 and demonstrating that FJH can translate from technical validation into scalable production and cash flow.
Cash burn increased sharply in 3Q26, with $17.5m of FCF outflow in the quarter. However, only $5.7m was operating cash burn, with the remaining ~$11.8m largely reflecting investment/capex as MTM builds out its commercial operations.
- The key number to watch is the June 2026 cash balance. Given the higher recent spending, this will provide a clearer picture of the company’s cash runway and whether another capital raise may be required.
The chart tells us that another cap raise cannot be discounted with news from Texas required to determine if this business can get up and firing – we would rather buy at a higher price following some concrete news.
- For MM to consider MTM we would need to see a runway for commercial revenue and a stronger balance sheet, then it could be valued with more confidence.
