Question asked

AI Opportunities Trust IPO (AIX)

Hi guys, Would you have an opinion on AIX, the AI Opportunities Trust IPO? Alternatively a better way to gain exposure to the sector? Thanks Simon

Answer

Hi Simon,

AIX is essentially a listed “AI private equity” fund, offering investors exposure to private AI businesses before they reach public markets. We like the concept and the partnership with GCM Grosvenor adds institutional credibility; however, investors should remember they’re buying a private markets vehicle at a time when enthusiasm for AI is running extremely hot.

The future opportunity sounds good — getting in early on the next wave of AI platforms before an IPO or trade sale is exactly the kind of asymmetric return profile that makes private equity compelling. But so is the risk — private market valuations are marked-to-model rather than marked-to-market, AI multiples are elevated across the board, and the NTA discount or premium at which AIX trades will fluctuate with sentiment as much as with underlying performance.

  • For reference, AIX opened on 10 June, closes 19 June, and is expected to list on the ASX on 2 July 2026.

We would be inclined to be move further down the risk curve and stick with listed AI stocks into pullbacks, or an ETF such as SEMI which we have discussed a few times this year.
