Ticker codes to get a good macro view of the market

Hi Guys Thanks for your great work as always! For those of us, like me who would like to get a good macro view of how the various sectors within the Aust share market are travelling, which ticker codes could we use? Or, what does MM like? I note that recently MM has been referring to ATEC for a macro picture of the tech sector but this is an ETF whereas XIJ represents the Information technology sector. Cheers, Nick

Answer

Hi Nick,

We look at the respective ASX200 11 main sectors, though we use the ticker codes on Bloomberg, which are different. The below sector codes are typically used on most data platforms;
The sectors are part of the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) adopted by ASX and S&P Dow Jones Indices. Showing index constituent and sector data can be costly, as we pay to display it, and it’s not immaterial!
