WiseTech (WTC)

Hi MM, For people without WTC exposure, do you think now is a good time to buy? With the recent ASIC office raid, I would have thought it's premature to invest given the potential for further fallout as a result of the investigation. Regards, Peter

Answer

Hi Peter,

The simple reason we haven’t sold our WTC holding is because if we had no position we would indeed be accumulating into the current weakness – “be greedy when others are fearful”. However, on the surface things clearly look poor with ASIC banging on the door:

  • However, importantly Richard Whites sales are nothing unusual, he’s been regularly selling shares for years to fund his divorces and increase market liquidity amongst other things. He wasn’t a director when these shares were sold and although it appears a poor judgement call, and is certainly a grey area, we’ve seen far worse examples of “well timed” director selling year in, year out.

While further news driven volatility feels likely we believe Richard White will be at the helm of WTC moving forward helping to bed down the recent $US2.1bn acquisition of e2open, if this proves correct WTC trading trading around 40% below its average valuation over recent years appears good risk/reward to us but it may take time.
