Question asked

NDQ, FANG and IVV ETFs

The returns from NDQ, FANG & IVV over the past 5+ years have been excellent but they don't feature in your ETF or Growth portfolios. Is there a reason for that? At what price would you consider these. Thanks

Answer

Hi Ian,

These are all US tech facing ETF’s trading on the ASX, holding US stocks such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple etc.

  • The MM Active Growth Portfolio only holds in the ASX200 stocks, not international hence these ETFs aren’t appropriate for this mandate.
  • The MM International Equities Portfolio has held a number of FANG stocks over the years which have delivered excellent returns – we recently took a +386% profit from Apple.
  • The MM ETF Portfolio holds 13% exposure in International Shares (VSO) which is up ~50%, its holdings are dominated by the mega-cap tech names. The portfolio is designed for broader exposure, and does not back individual sectors more than others, we let the broad-based indices the ETFs track make those decisions for us.

Hence on the surface we don’t own them but indirectly we have them largely covered.
