Order listings

Hi Guys, I am just looking over the Buy/Sell order numbers for MQG after today's 2.5% sell off. I have noticed the number 1446 shares - double listed - on the same price on 9 different prices on the Buyers side and the same number double listed on 6 different prices on the Sellers side. Can you explain what is going on there please? Cheers Michael.

Answer

Hi Michael,

Obviously, we can only make a calculated guess here, but these are likely parts of VWAP orders:

  • A way for investors to buy or sell a large number of shares slowly over the day, instead of all at once. The goal is to get a price that’s close to the average price of the stock, based on how much is being traded and at what prices during the day.

Often such orders sell/buy the same volume of shares through the day with different, larger volumes, on the open & close.
