Question asked

Exposure to US Russell 2000 (small cap) Index

James, I am interested in getting some exposure to the US Russell 2000 Index and would like to know the easiest way I could achieve this? Thank you, Ian

Answer

Hi Ian,

For direct exposure to the Russell 2000 Index the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM US), traded in the US is a good option: it has a market cap of $US71bn and an expense ratio of 0.19%.

We hold the Vanguard MSCI Small Companies Index ETF (VSO) in our Core ETF Portfolio, though this is Aussie Small caps which have a higher weighting to resources vs industrials which dominate the Russell 2000. Not sure about a Russell 200 exposure listed on the ASX – there used to be one, but cannot see it now, maybe our readers from the ETF space can confirm?
