Question asked

Does MM like any Treasury bond ETF’s?

Hi Team, How can a retail investor buy treasury bond? Is there a better ETF than QUAL? Thanks & regards Sidney

Answer

Hi Sydney,

ETFs are the easiest way to buy US Treasuries, have a look at the GGOV from Betashares.

RE QUAL, which gives investors exposure to a diversified portfolio of quality international companies listed on exchanges in developed markets around the world (ex Australia). It’s a big question and one that we could only scratch the surface on. It’s done 12.29% pa over 3-years, which is solid, it tracks the index it is meant to (MSCI World ex Australia Quality Index) and it charges a reasonable fee (0.40%). Short answer is, we prefer direct (active) management of a higher conviction portfolio, however appreciate that the ETF is a simpler way of getting overseas exposure, and we do think overseas exposure is important for Australian investors.

As an aside, Market Matters will be making our International Equities Portfolio available for direct investment in the coming months, with the portfolio having returned 16.63% pa over the past 3 years.
