Question asked

What is the “Blockout” period for US shares?

James what is the blockout period for US shares? Do you have a view on what Amazon could report? I've heard most of Large Tech US will have disappointing earnings (high US Dollar, high input costs etc). Thank you.

Answer

Hi Arthur,

The SEC doesn’t actually prohibit executives from trading in a stock ahead of its earnings assuming their legal disclosures are up to date. However most companies do prohibit directors and some employees who might have important information from trading in the companies stock for weeks before it reports i.e. it varies from company to company but around 2 weeks is the average.
