Can you explain please explain the BHP Petroleum & Woodside merger?

hare Hi James & Team, Can you please clarify what BHP shareholders receive from the merger. For example if you own 1000 BHP shares you received 180 WDS shares. But can you please explain the "in specie" fully franked dividend. Do BHP shareholders also receive a fully franked dividend payment of A$5.38 plus franking of A$2.30. (ie for 1000 shares $5,380 + $2,300 franking. If so when does this get paid? Or have I got it totally wrong?? Regards

Answer

Hi,

We get 1 WDS share for every 5.534 BHP shares held plus franking. So, the ‘dividend’ which is paid in WDS shares is worth $5.38 plus franking = $7.68 per BHP share. The shares are paid now, the franking is collected at tax time. Cost base used for new WDS shares in $29.76.
