Hello James and the team, I have been with MM for some years now and still it is my best source of relevant and plain speaking analysis of stocks and the markets.
We like CAR but exited the stock on valuation grounds in December; the current weakness is addressing this issue, with the stock already down ~13% from its late 2024 high.
Block reported this morning, and it looks mixed at first glance, which might not be good enough in the current market – the stock initially fell ~7% in late US trading:
MP1 was the market’s top performer on Thursday, surging +19.5% after raising its full-year revenue forecast; at one stage, the stock was up 27%.
HSN –4.58% announced 1H25 results and outlook with key metrics toward the top end of guidance and FY25 targets reiterated;
Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) is a fintech company that provides payment processing, banking, and financial services for businesses and individuals. It was founded by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder, and Jim McKelvey in 2009.
In 2020, Chinese Tech giant Alibaba was flying, trading above $US300/sh on the cusp of IPO’ing Ant Group, Alibaba’s fintech arm, which was set to raise a record $US37 billion. But that came crashing down quickly, following a speech by Jack Ma, Alibaba’s Co-Founder & CEO, in October 2020, where he criticised Chinese regulators, state-owned banks, and the financial system, suggesting they were stifling innovation.
A big relief rally from the audio/visual operative today after they reported lower costs, down 3% versus prior guidance which was a 7-9% increase. A big shift from an operational perspective and we’d generally expect that to have a negative influence on the top line, though this came largely in line with expectations.
What is your view on the cyber security sector in the next 3-5 years.
COH –13.73%: Delivered half-year results that were only a slight miss to analyst expectations on the profit and revenue line, though disappointed as management guided full-year profit to the lower end of its previously announced range of $410m-$430m.
