Question asked

Monitoring ASX sentiment

I'm trying to get a read on the likely opening direction/sentiment of the ASX each day. What indicators should I look at and are they valid each day. For example our Monday when the USA is closed on our Sunday, are there valid indicators out there? I currently use XP1:IND. Is that ' live' each day and over the weekend? Cheers! Dave

Answer

Hi Dave,

The best read through on where the ASX200 will open is the SPI Futures which trade almost 24-hours a day and are shown on the AFR or Bloomberg with around a 10-minute delay – its relatively expensive to be live. During our actual day session the asx.com.au website provides the index live with a delay on individual stocks. The morning Market Matters report has SPI Futures in the top table as well.
