Electro Optic systems (ASX: EOS) and AIC Mines (ASX: A1M)

Hi Market matters Team Can I have your current view on EOS -Electro Optic It has fallen to a low this morning of $7.31. Below the $8 capital raise. Is this a buy? Do you prefer Droneshield in this space or DFND ETF? A1M - is this a buy or hold? regards Debbie

Answer

Hi Debie,

Electro Optic (EOS) – It’s been an extremely volatile, news driven, few years for EOS albeit with a clear upside bias as defence stocks came to the fore:

  • €71.4m NATO laser contract (5 Aug 2025): Shares surged ~43% on the day (A$2.95 to A$4.23), marking the start of a sustained re-rating as EOS secured a landmark NATO order.
  • A$80m South Korean laser contract (15 Dec 2025): Drove the next leg higher, reinforcing EOS’s growing position as a global supplier of directed-energy defence systems.
  • A$175m capital raise at A$8.00/share (18 May 2026): Fully underwritten institutional placement and SPP to fund the acquisition of counter-drone specialist MARSS, expanding EOS’s integrated defence offering.

We remain neutral towards the Defence space as we’ve mentioned a few times in recent weeks including here on EOS in June, if pushed we would pick EOS over DRO, and the DFND ETF but we cannot see ourselves buying either.

AIC Mines (A1M) – this growing Australian copper producer, was hit hard on Thursday as we discussed here, the volatile stock has fallen ~20% in the last 48-hours on higher cost guidance, similar but more dramatic issues to Evolution Mining (EVN) – the ASX miners have delivered an average operational performance score card this week.

  • We remain long and bullish, regarding A1M as more of a buy than hold, but negative news tends to impact stocks far longer these days than it did in the past.
