Question asked

BHP US ADRs

As a holder of BHP through its US listing do we get franking credits on the recent dividend? With the WPL transaction how will the amount of WPL shares allocated to ADR holders be determined given the variance between ASX BHP share price and US listing price? Is there any information available on this?

Answer

Hi Peter – I believe the holder of an ADR is treated the same as a holder of ordinary shares. The franking component of the WPL shares which are being issued as a dividend should apply for those that have held the ADR or stock at risk for at least 45 days. Important to note, Market Matters does not provide tax advice, nor personal investment advice.
