ACDC Ticker for Lithium Price

Hi MM Why do you use the ticker ACDC when you show the lithium price? Google advises that ‘ The Battery Tech & Lithium ETF (ACDC) has about 15 per cent of its net asset value in lithium miners; including Pilbara Minerals, Allkem, Livent and Mineral Resources, with battery manufacturers including LG Energy, Samsung and Toshiba, alongside EV leaders like Tesla, Volkswagen, and BMW.19 May 2023’. Answer

Hi Peter,

When referring to Lithium we use the LME Lithium Hydroxide chart for pricing, however we refer to the Battery Tech & Lithium ETF (ACDC) in the action as our preferred way to trade the lithium price given the lack of more lithium concentrated ETF exposure. The same can be said for a number of indices and commodities that we refer to in our reports as, while we are trying to provide actionable ideas on these instruments, the only way to trade these actions is through ETFs.

  • Also its worth noting the lithium price per se isn’t the most liquid and hence transparent market at this stage of its evolution.

More broadly, when thinking about the structure of the Market Matters Website, it’s worth restating how it functions. We offer ‘Opinions’ about things and then we attach an ‘Action’ to most of them. A report is made of a sequence of Opinions + Action’s. By doing this, we are trying to address one of our own frustrations with the financial world i.e there are a lot of opinions out there but linking those to an actionable idea can often be illusive.
