Billionaire George Soros maybe 91-years old but he remains famous as a hedge fund manager who is widely regarded as one of the greatest investors of all time plus of course he is often referred to as “The man who broke the Bank of England” – he made over $US1bn by short selling the Pound back in 1992 after identifying it as overvalued while the UK remained in the EU. He’s already donated over $US30bn to charities which makes me admire the man from afar on a few levels.
NB Some years are regarded as great for red wine, in the investment world 1930 is a standout year producing both Warren Buffett and George Soros.
On the investment front he returned an average of 30% pa between 1970 and 2000, amazing returns when compounded. Hence when his fund announces some new bets we take a look to see if any of them look appropriate for the ASX and its respective stocks / sectors – MM has in the past enjoyed “light bulb” moments from other fund managers and I’m sure we will again i.e. there’s no room for ego when your looking for optimum investment returns.
