Four Corners aired an expose into the murky world of strata management overnight that highlighted the conflicts throughout the industry, with strata managers conflicted with developers (who would allocate their next management agreement), insurers who are paying kickbacks to strata managers for the sale of insurance products and then finally, preferred building and maintenance contractors that have cross-shareholdings and a range of conflicts, none of which seemed to be disclosed to underlying owners.

The number one building repair and restoration insurance business in Australia ticks a lot of the buzzwords that fund managers like to promote: founder-led, strong organic growth, sector-leading margins, international expansion into a big market, structural tailwinds and a strong balance sheet. All these things are true, yet the stock is down 6% YTD in a rising market and now sits nearly 40% below its all-time high, trading at the lowest PE it’s been on in nearly 5 years (25x). This was (and still is) a well-loved stock, and rightly so.

JLG -13.19%: The John ding-a-lings as they’re called on the desk were whacked today after missing 1H earnings expectations. While revenue of $610.6m was above expectations, profit of $23.4m was a ~7% miss impacted by higher costs.
