BetaShares Asia Technology Tigers ETF (ASIA) $14.05

This ETF is the locally traded incumbent in the space, having been listed in 2018, and it aims to track the performance of the Solactive Asia ex-Japan Technology & Internet Tigers Index. The index consists of the top ~50 Asian technology and online retail companies (by free-float market cap), excluding Japan. The ETF has a meaningful market cap of $870mn but is more expensive with an expense ratio of 0.67%.

BetaShares Asia Technology Tigers ETF (ASIA) $9.99

The ASIA ETF is a $570mn ASX-traded ETF, which is an excellent proxy for gaining exposure to Asian tech stocks, with the largest five holdings being Tencent, Alibaba, Taiwan Semiconductors, Samsung and Xiamoni Corp, but these five make up less than 50% of the ETF showing its spread of risk across 56 holdings.

Asian Tech – BetaShares Asia Technology Tigers ETF (ASIA)

Asia looks poised to take, or at least share, the technology mantle with the US, something that tariffs may slow, but they won't stop. Today we have looked at another of our painful positions, our bullish stance towards Asian tech on relative value grounds has been smacked on 2 fronts, ongoing regulatory controls out of both China & the US plus of course surging bond yields has weighed on the entire global tech sector – we bought after the sector had dipped ~30% but it was clearly still way too soon.

Global Macro ETF Portfolio

The MM Global Macro ETF Portfolio gained +2.47% last week with both of the battery & lithium ETF (ACDC) and the BetaShares Global Gold Miners ETF (MNRS) positions advancing over 6%, unfortunately, the BetaShares Asian Technology Tigers ETF (ASIA) dragged on the portfolio falling just under 6% courtesy of weakness in Tencent and Alibaba.

The MM Global Macro ETF Portfolio fell -1.01% last week as recession fears continued to weigh on global markets, our BetaShares Aussie Dollar (AUDS) -5.7% and Asian Tech (ASIA) -3.1% ETF’s were the main drags on the portfolio while support was provided from the US Nasdaq (NDQ) +3% and Invesco Agricultural Fund (DBA) +2.5% ETF’s.

The MM Global Macro ETF Portfolio added +2.1% last week with our exposure to tech via Asian Tech (ASIA) +7.9% and the NASDAQ ETF 100 (NDQ) +6.1% finally leading the line while the Invesco DB Agricultural Fund (DBA) -2.1% was the only position which declined.
