Afternoon Report Thursday 4 September 2014
The ASX 200 sold off aggressively from the start off the session, but managed to close off its lows, down 25 points to 5,631.
The banking sector led the way down, with Westpac (WBC) closing down 29c at $34.93 and National Australia Bank (NAB) closing down 26c at $35.05.
Telstra (TLS) had a healthy breather from its recent run today, closing down 5c to $5.67.
With the NASDAQ selling off overnight, the Information Technology sector was the weakest link in the ASX 200 today, with Carsales.com (CRZ) closing down 41c at $10.65.
It will be a nervous wait for tonight’s European Central Bank’s comments of how it plans to stimulate the region’s economy, after the Bank of Japan (BoJ) decided to leave its monetary policy unchanged this afternoon.
