Question asked

Where do I position myself?

Hi Gents, In this current volatile environment, where am I best advised to position myself? I invested quite heavily in precious metals and uranium some time ago and aside from some early gains, the sectors have been disappointing since. I also have a solid foundation of defensive blue chips, but where are you looking for growth into next year? Thanks as always.

Answer

Hi David,

We only provide General Advice at MM, but by definition we have “put our money” where our mouth is over recent weeks:

  • We like the rate-sensitive stocks believing rates have peaked, recently we purchased Mirvac (MGR) and JB Hi-Fi (JBH).
  • We believe the panic like Data Centre/AI Trade sell-off is close to exhaustion and we played this view by buying Rio Tinto (RIO) recently.
  • Also, we believe the software stocks offer good risk/reward at current levels having purchased CAR Group (CAR) this week.

NB The longer the 3-year bond yield sits below the RBA Cash Rate the more confident we get that rates have peaked this month.

We like gold and uranium stocks you mentioned earlier but currently feel we have enough exposure there. Also, as members know we are in general bullish towards stocks into 2027 but investors who get too close to this volatile market could easily become unnerved.
