Question asked

SiteMinder Ltd (ASX: SDR) and Service Stream Ltd (ASX: SSM)

Hi. I am new to your service and am enjoying your current views on markets and stocks. However. I am having trouble reconciling your views on stocks and the forecast score. The latter is something I put emphasis because, if reliable, it indicated the stock's quality. Two examples are SDR which you are " long and bullish on around $4, yet the " forecast" score is 5/10. Conversely for SSM you apparently have no interest, yet it has a perfect score of 10/10. Can you address my confusion please?

Answer

Hi Graeme,

A great question that may be useful for a number of subscribers. The references you are making refer to very different parts of the MM service:

  • Our views are just that, whether, bullish, bearish or neutral this is the MM stance. These are updated regularly by way of our daily notes and can be followed on the MM website, specifically under the “Action” Tab of individual stocks, with all history kept on the site to maintain full transparency.
  • Conversely the “forecast” score you are referring to is generated by LSEG Data (formerly part of Thomson Reuters, now owned by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) – our views don’t always align with this quantitative report, just like we don’t always agree with other analysts – if everybody was correct the market wouldn’t move.

The chart below illustrates why broker consensus can be very dangerous, with it providing little guide to the gains & falls in SiteMinder (SDM) over recent years.

MM is very aware of the confusion this brings to subscribers , and we’re in the process of upgrading this side of things in the next few months – the developers are already beavering away!
