Answer

Hi Paul,

Skinkandy Limited (ASX: SK1) is due to start trading on the ASX next week, after an IPO at $2.20. It’s the world’s largest body piercing retailer, operating 104+ studios across Australia and New Zealand where every piercing artist is nurse-trained, certified in infection protection and uses medical-grade sterilisation, offering more than 70 piercing types across ears, nose, belly and body using pre-sterilised gold, titanium and surgical steel jewellery – it’s certainly different!

SK1 shapes as one of the more interesting IPOs of 2026, a differentiated retail concept with a proven Australian footprint, an experienced management team executing a Lovisa-style rollout strategy, with exposure to a large, fragmented global market still dominated by smaller independent operators.

However, at a $245.7mn valuation the stock is far from cheap, with investors paying for the international growth opportunity rather than the current 104-store network. The key issue now is execution. It’s also coming out of private equity (Whiteoak), which is a mid-market Australian PE firm that backs growing private companies, and SkinKandy appears to be its first IPO exit since launching in 2016. The IPO includes a major sell-down from Whiteoak, which is something we are generally wary of. That said, we don’t know the business well, and have not had any involvement/meeting/presentations during the IPO process – so we’re flying blind here.

If management can successfully replicate the Australian model across the US and UK, the long-term upside could be substantial. If international expansion proves slower or more difficult than expected, the current valuation could come under pressure quickly. We’re a fence sitter on this one, but without any real conviction.
